January 6

God has made us a little lower than the angels, yet crowned us with glory and honor. He has set us over all the works of His hand and all things under our subjection, but we are not able to see our place while here on earth. But we can see Jesus and in doing so we can place our faith in Him to help us in our times of need.

Hebrews 2:5-8
“5 For He has not put the world to come, of which we speak, in subjection to angels. 6 But one testified in a certain place, saying: "What is man that You are mindful of him, Or the son of man that You take care of him? 7 You have made him a little lower than the angels; You have crowned him with glory and honor, And set him over the works of Your hands. 8 You have put all things in subjection under his feet." For in that He put all in subjection under him, He left nothing that is not put under him. But now we do not yet see all things put under him.”

Hebrews 1:14 is clear that angels are ministering spirits and were never meant to be rulers, but rather ministers or servants to those who will rule. Verse 6 is a quote taken out of Psalms 8:4-8 where King David is noting that man was placed in charge of the earth. When we think of this it is an awesome position, which came with an awesome responsibility. This is the very reason Satan came with deception to Eve in that he wanted the level of authority that had been given to man.

Verse seven says man was made a little lower than the angels, which is an interesting statement and the word angel is possibly the wrong translation. This verse is an exact quote from Psalms 8:5 and the Greek word ELOHIYM, translated as angels in Psalms 8:5 and Hebrews 2:7, was used in the bible over 2080 times and these two verses are the only two times the word is translated into angels. The same word used in Exodus 21:6 and 22:8-9 was translated four times as judges, but the remaining 2076 translations in the NKJV are translated “God”. What Psalms 8:5 and Hebrews 2:7 is really saying is that man was made a little lower than God. When you study the beginning in Genesis you see that man was made in God’s image, Genesis 1:26-27. Until the fall man could have lived for ever, this is why in Genesis 2:23-24, God drove man out of the Garden of Eden where the tree of life was. Man was made in God’s image not in the image of an angel. He was given authority over everything on, under, and above earth, and when man ate of the tree of knowledge he knew both good and evil just like God. Man was never created to know both good and evil, because of the limits of our free will. There has never been a creature made with such authority and in such a close position to God than man. Man was crowned with Glory and honor and was set in authority over all God had made on earth. Every time Christians slip into sin or fall back into works over grace, what they are doing is handing their God given authority over their own lives back into the hands of Satan. They are not keeping God from giving them His blessings as that has already happened at the moment we became born again into the body of Christ, Ephesians 1:3. What sin and works actually do is make allowance for Satan to interfere with their blessing receptors; their heart and mind. God has taken away our heart of stone, the heart of fallen man, and has given us a heart of flesh, Ezekiel 36:26, but we have to renew our minds daily to overcome the fallen nature of man’s thinking and align our thinking up with the mind of Christ which we have also been given, 1 Corinthians 2:16.

The last part of verse 8 which is also from Psalms 8 clearly states our position of authority here on earth, but it also points out the second most important factor in why man does not live the blessed lives God intended for us to live. Everything was put under our feet and God left nothing out here on earth that was not put under our feet. The problem is Christians do not see it!  “But now we do not yet see all things put under him.” This is because we are trying to see it with our natural eyes and not through the spiritual vision God gave us. And because we are still trying to make it happen in our own strength, it will never happen. Only those Christians who are able to walk in the power of grace can see all things put under their feet. The greatest position of a child of God is seeing their position as being right next to God and capable of freely communicating with God. Until the death and resurrection of our Lord and savior Jesus, man did not have this freedom, but for those who have believed in their hearts and confessed with their mouths that Jesus is the son of God and has risen from the dead, these have been restored to their rightful position, Romans 10:8-10. Have you believed and confessed Jesus as your Lord and savior? If not now would be a good time to do so. If you are reading this and want to make that step of faith and do not know of someone to lead you and stand with you in your confession you can call our office and someone will be there to pray this prayer and stand with you.
