The throne of Jesus is forever and the angels of heaven worship Him. Righteous is the scepter of His kingdom and He has established us in His kingdom. This powerful truth gives us the strength and authority to receive all His kingdom has to offer while we are still here on earth.

Hebrews 1:5-9
“5 For to which of the angels did He ever say: "You are My Son, Today I have begotten You"? And again: "I will be to Him a Father, And He shall be to Me a Son. 6 But when He again brings the firstborn into the world, He says: "Let all the angels of God worship Him. 7 And of the angels He says: "Who makes His angels spirits And His ministers a flame of fire. 8 But to the Son He says: "Your throne, O God, is forever and ever; A scepter of righteousness is the scepter of Your kingdom. 9 You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness; Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You With the oil of gladness more than Your companions."

Verse 5 is a quote from Psalms 2:7 and was used by Paul when he spoke to the synagogue in Antioch in Acts 13:33. The last half of verse 5 is quoted from the prophesy in 2 Samuel 7:14 and the same prophesy from Ezra in 1 Chronicles 17:13, & 22:10. Paul establishes Jesus as the first born and seed of Abraham to be Jesus in Galatians 3:16. The Old Testament prophets knew and understood the superiority of Jesus the Messiah when He comes, but did not recognize Him when He arrived. Christians have recognized Him as having arrived, but fall short of seeing His worth and superiority of having paid the price for everyone who believes. The Jehovah Witnesses believe Jesus was a superior angel, but do not recognize His deity, henceforth, they are in a never ending life of works trying to gain what they could already have, righteousness with God. The Mormons are not much different in that they too see Jesus as less than who He is. Without the full understanding that Jesus is the Son of God, being fully God and fully Man while here on earth, a believer is left empty from the full freedom of their own sin and never really sure of their salvation. If they have a heart toward God, without the truth, they will spend their life in constant turmoil and strife trying to overcome one sin after another. Everything rests in Jesus’ perfect work on the cross!

Luke 2:13 records that the angels in multitude were praising Jesus at His birth; I have to ask why would an angel give praise to an equal? Verse 6 alone is proof that Jesus is above the angels, but then the writer adds verse 7. Only a creator can make the angels spirits and ministers on fire which places Jesus as the creator of the angels. Verse 8 is a clincher in that Jesus is specifically stated as the Son with a throne forever and also is called God. I read this as additional proof that Jesus is 100% God and 100% Man while here on earth. Verse 8 is also a quote from the original prophesy in Psalms 45:6.

Most Christians over look verse nine in the area of gladness. The writer of Hebrews is continuing from the quote in Psalms 45:6-7 which points out that the Messiah was anointed as God by God with the oil of gladness more than your companions. Isaiah 53:3 prophesies that our Lord would carry our sorrow and grief. Keep in mind that He carried every humans sorrow and grief. We may think we have sorrow or grief in our life, but we are only dealing with a thimble full of our own, and not even our neighbors; Jesus carries everyone’s. We become glad at the revelation of Jesus in our lives, but God has anointed Him with more gladness than all of us. Christians miss the fact that we too are anointed with gladness since everything that Jesus has He gave to us. Why do Christians have such a bellyache mentality, of living sorrows rather than living in the joy and gladness of our redemption? This is because the average Christian does not fully understand who Jesus truly is and therefore has difficulty believing wholly heartedly that ALL of our sins have been forgotten, past, present, and “future”. For years I had difficulty understanding the Trinity Godhead concept. Are there three people or is there only one? As I began maturing in understanding in these verses coupled with Deuteronomy 6:4, “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one!”, I came to the undeniable conclusion that they are all the same, God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit. With this full understanding I finally laid down my doubt of complete salvation and stopped trying to work out my salvation in my own energy. Christians today for the most part are still caught up in this same doubt. Hosea 4:6 prophesied “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge”.  If Christians only “live” from preached word to preached word without personal study than they leave their salvation in the hands of another clay vessel. If that clay vessel preached only damnation verses salvation and does not preach the grace and glory of the Lord with His blessings for us while still here on earth, than the church ends up with doubting unhappy Christians; what a waist.
