God, upholding all things by the power of His word, sent His Son to pay the price for our sins. As such He has sat down from His works and empowered us to pick them up and move forward with them.

Hebrews 1:3-4
“3 who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, 4 having become so much better than the angels, as He has by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.”

Jesus questioned Philip in John 14:9 as to why he asked to see the father when he had been with Jesus all this time.  Jesus further explains that those that have seen Him have seen the Father. The Greek word CHARAKTER which is translated “express Image” actually means “an exact copy”.  To the eye there is not any difference between two items, the original and the exact copy.  To be an exact copy the copy must also be made up with the exact same composition as the original or it is not exact.  Only the originator will know the difference at the time of creation.  Remember in John 1:1-3, 14 and 1Timothy 3:16, Jesus was God come down in the flesh.  How much more exact can you get than that?  We also read in John 1:3 that through His word all things were made which is confirmed in Colossians 1:17, so it is His word alone that holds all things.  It was His word that gave man complete authority over everything on earth, Genesis 1:26 and since God cannot lie nor changes His mind He could not just take the authority back from Satan since Adam gave it to him in the Garden of Eden.  Galatians 4:4 tells us that in the fullness of time God sent forth His Son to pay the spiritual price for the sins of man.

Notice I said spiritual, because our earthly body is still under the curse and will grow old and die, but our New Man, our born again spirit will live on forever in the presence of God.  God’s criterion for righteousness is the same standard that He is.  Humans miss the importance of this since we often live in some form or another of double standards.  We want to live pure before the Lord, but can never do so perfectly, we therefore have double standards for our children.  On one hand there is an expectation of behavior for our children, which comes with levels of leeway and a justification for our own shortcomings when we fall short of our expectations.  Since man’s natural mind is unstable in thinking we tend to disbelieve that God’s standards are as exacting on us as Himself.  The fact is they are perfectly ridged in purity to the point that Jesus, in Matthew 5:28, tells us that even if a man looks at a woman with lust he has committed adultery in his heart.  Only God can live up to His perfect standards and only God could have lived a perfect life here on earth so that in His natural death as the Son of God, Satan could not hold Him since sin and death did not have any hold on Him.

Today, since His resurrection, Jesus as the Son of God sits at God’s right hand making intercession for us for EVERY sin which He Himself purged clean for us.  Acts 2:33-34, 5:31, Ephesians 1:20, 1 Peter 3:22 all point out the fact that Jesus is seated at the right hand of God.  In Acts 2:34 the Apostle Peter was actually relating to prophesy as spoken by King David regarding our Lord Jesus. Romans 8:34 is a rich explanation of what Jesus has done and substantiates verse “34 Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.”

Verse 4 is the beginning of the rest of this chapter which points out seven different scriptures stating the superiority of Jesus over even angles. Jesus’ inheritance is the firstborn of several areas in our lives. Romans 8:29 says He is the firstborn of many brethren, Colossians 1:15 says He is the firstborn of all creation, Colossians 1:18 says He is the firstborn of the dead, and in Hebrews 1:6 when He was brought into this world even the angels of God were told to worship Him.
