The Power of Grace Ministries

August 4

The traditions of man which we call denominationalisms are no different that the basic principles of the world. Both are empty with deceit and cheat you from your powerful personal relationship with Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior.

Colossians 2:8-9
“8 Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ. 9 For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily;

 I believe the statement in verse 8 from Paul is more real today than when he wrote it. Today we call it “Secular Humanism” and “Situational Ethics”. Since the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, there has been an ever growing populous of man’s teachings with false Christ and empty deceit. There are religions where man is his own god, or mental ascent as the way to true happiness, or Jesus was just another one of the great prophets. Jesus Himself warned of this in Matthew 24:24 and 1 John 2:18 tell us this is a sign of the coming of the last hour. Jeremiah 10:23 prophesied that the way of man is not in himself and yet today there are more “self-help” books sold than ever before. We must wake up and realize that there is a war going on for the future of the church or we will wake up some day and the church we know will no longer exist. Why is it that 82% of students graduating from “Christian” schools never go back to church? Why are there less than 15% of young adults in church today and only 4-6% of high school student’s believe in the word of God and Jesus Christ? I am not making these stats up, but have read them in Charisma, Assembly of God, and Baptist magazines. These numbers are also secular research papers by major universities. The American Heritage Dictionary defines philosophy as: Love and pursuit of wisdom by intellectual means and moral self-discipline. The mind is enmity to God (Romans 8:7) and if just following laws was the answer then why did the Children of Israel fail at achieving righteousness. The secular world does not want to accept this, but our countries legal system with all of its laws was based on the original Ten Commandments, and if just following those laws worked then why is there so much crime today? As a society have we become so technologically advanced that our pursuit of knowledge has overcome our pursuit to Godliness?  People and even Christians forget that the pursuit of worldly happiness and things actually leaves the person empty and shallow, not to mention how it affects their potential outcome. We have become a country of symbolism over substance and the rest of the world sees it. I believe this correction can only start with each individual searching the good things of God instead of the temporary things of man. Philosophy, the deceit of legalism, and the ways of this world will always leave a Christian short of where God wants him to be.

 9 For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; We can never accept the lie that Jesus was just a man like us; with the only difference being He had the Son’s Spirit instead of Adam’s spirit. To believe this lie is to believe that if Jesus walked perfect once He received the Holy Spirit we can walk perfect also; man will never walk in perfection while still on this earth.  Unless a person accepts God’s word that Jesus is 100% God and 100% man the truth is no longer present (1 Timothy 3:16). Christians often forget that doubt, philosophy, and empty deceit are the only tools Satan has against God’s children. Most people think that Satan has some kind of supernatural power to make us submit to his will when in fact the only power he has comes to him from us because of his deception. He did not come at Eve with the most powerful creature on earth and make her submit to his will over God’s. Satan came to her in the form of a serpent which is the most subtle creature on earth (Genesis 3:1).  Understanding that in Jesus dwells the complete fullness of the Godhead bodily, is the beginning of our ability to live in peace because of the power of God’s grace.
